Washington Women In Need:
Helping women help themselves...

Debra Rubens felt like she'd hit bottom in 1994. The Mercer Island woman had just gone through a divorce, and was determined to stay on the Island. But after six years of raising her children at home, she had few marketable skills.

"I was a convention planner before my children were born, but that job requires a lot of travel, and I also didn't have any computer skills," she said. Rubens had faced a number of losses and was mentally, emotionally and financially at the end of her rope.

"I needed counseling to deal with all those loses before I could move forward," she said.

Rubens received a grant from Washington Women In Need, and was able to find a therapist to help her over the rough spots in her life.

Washington Women In Need (WWIN) is an organization that does just what its name suggests: aids women in need.
