Bellevue and Seattle Communities Unite to Imagine the Possibilities for Washington Women In Need Clients

WWIN raised $450,000 at its annual spring luncheons held in Seattle and Bellevue.  All of the money raised will be used exclusively to fund grants for low income women in Washington for education (tuition and books) and health care (physical, vision, dental and hearing health services; health insurance premiums and mental health counseling).  Many corporate partners and almost 1,000 individuals attended the luncheons to support and help raise money for the organization.  The Seattle luncheon was held on March 26 and the Bellevue luncheon took place on April 23.

“The 2009 Seattle and Bellevue Spring Benefit Luncheons were a resounding success because of the almost 1,000 attendees who chose to “Imagine the Possibilities” for low income women in Washington - one woman at a time.  We are so grateful for the strong community support of our overall goal of empowering women to achieve wellness and create futures for themselves, their families and our communities”; said Helena Stephens, President of the Board of Directors.

Emceed by Mimi Jung in Seattle and Lori Matsukawa in Bellevue, both anchors and reporters at KING 5 Television, the luncheon featured a video of a dental grant recipient, a health insurance grant recipient and an education grant recipient.  Luncheon attendees were moved by the story of Monica, keynote client speaker, who gave a testimonial of her experience as a WWIN counseling grant recipient.  Monica was living her dream when her world was turned upside down by a series of losses that filled her life with despair and hopelessness.  She told how she was able to defy despair and is now able to enjoy life.  The skills she learned in counseling also provided her with tools to re-enter the job market to get her “dream job”.  Today she is happily employed as a professional organizer and personal chef.

“WWIN gave me the profound healing of hope and it was given to me with dignity, respect and compassion by all of you gracious men and women”, Monica said as she thanked WWIN donors for their life saving grant.

The commitment of Julia Pritt, the founder of WWIN, is so profound that she pays the operating expenses of WWIN.  As always, every dollar of the money raised at this year’s fundraisers will go exclusively to fund grants for education and health care for low income women who are struggling to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their families.

WWIN announced a 2009 Challenge Gift of $50,000 given by the Aven Foundation.  This challenge gift was given to challenge luncheon guests to join the Multi Year Giving Society by making a pledge over five years; to add a year to their multi year pledge; or to make an additional or increased gift to provide sustainable funding for the future for health care and education grants.
